Steps To Reduce Your Stress Levels - Be Responsible

The majority of us are aware of the fact that being under stress over prolonged periods can be quite detrimental to our health. Many of us will know of someone who has suffered a heart attack or suffers with panic bought about by anxiety which are all symptoms of stress, as well as a multitude of other health issues. However, even though we're aware of how dangerous to our health stress can actually be, we still appear to embrace it as though we can't live without huge amounts of it in our lives. To 'Be Responsible' is what I consider to be the first step in reducing our stress levels. Not only that but I believe that being responsible is also the first step to overcoming all past issues.

Writing this in words gives the appearance that I make it sound so easy, however my belief is quite the opposite. What we are responsible for is how we felt at that time and how we chose to deal with the situation. To suddenly accept that you are responsible for how you dealt with all of the misfortunate events from your past and upto your present is an extremely bitter pill to swallow, and the reason why is because of the amount of emphasis that we give to the problem being down to someone or something else. I must clarify at this point that most unfortunate events could not happen in our lives had we not made the decision to be in the situation in the first place, regardless of what it is we're confronted with. However some unfortunate events like loss of a relative or loved one through death, though we have no control over the event we do have control over how we feel about it. The act of giving responsibility itself is like a form of self-hypnosis and I'll use relationships as an example: more often than not many of us enter a relationship because we need someone to make us feel better about ourselves, so we submit the responsibility to the next good thing to come along. Whether it's just someone to have around, a compliment for the way we dress or the things we do, a cuddle when we feel down or if it's someone to listen to the misfortunes we've experienced in our day, we build our relationships based on what we can get from them as opposed to what we can give.

The problem arises when we feel we are no longer getting what we want from our relationships and this is the point at which being responsible is clearly on the back seat. It's highly unlikely that when we feel let down by our relationships, we are looking at our own actions, more likely looking at our partners. Because we place so much emphasis on what we're getting, the moment we believe we're not getting, which more often than not is not getting enough rather than not getting at all, we begin to look for reasons to support our belief of not getting which often materialises as fault finding and nit-picking. Before we know it we're engaging in full blown rows with our partners or not speaking at all which can last for hours, even days, without even considering the amount of stress we're surrounding ourselves with and the fact that it could all be over in a flash had we been able to take responsibility for ourselves and the situation.

I refer to self-hypnosis because we kind of hypnotise ourselves to only see them as the problem and ultimately them as the solution. With this self-hypnosis comes the inability to see ourselves as the problem. The bottom line is if someone does something that we don't like then it's not a matter of them doing it wrong, more a matter of it not being to our liking. At this point we should think about our own actions with regard to what we must do to re-dress the balance and make ourselves feel better in that moment. What we often tend to do is attempt to make our partners recognise the fact that we're not happy and it's them that must do something to change that. In reality I don't think that many of us deep down want to believe that we are doing anything wrong and the act of self-hypnosis leads us to believe that everything we do is right, therefore there is no need to look at our own actions.

Many of us will have seen people getting hypnotised at functions or shows and the effects of the hypnosis is the subject being unable to carry out certain obvious tasks or they do things they believe to be normal, when the rest of us can clearly see that they are not. In reality the hypnotist is just a guide and the subjects actually hypnotise themselves. Taking this into account, the idea of hypnotising ourselves to not see our own actions seems more than just a possibility, and to suddenly have the ability to look at our own actions with a view of taking responsibility requires a lot of will power.

To take responsibility is not to take the blame for the failing relationship but to take responsibility for how we feel about it. If we take this on board then we realise the last thing we want to do is assist in creating an environment that increases stress levels and instead try to reduce them. This is something we have complete control over if we choose it, whereas giving someone else the responsibility means we have no control and if we have no control then we are at their mercy. Now we begin to see how unresolved issues of the past become a burden on our minds. We carry the burden in the hope that who or whatever we hold responsible will eventually free us from our load and make us feel better. To decide to take responsibility is the first step and taking responsibility gives our lives a whole new perspective. Since we've hypnotised ourselves to not take responsibility, then we must de-hypnotise ourselves by restoring the belief that we are responsible. When we begin to believe and see that we are responsible we naturally begin to put steps into place to ensure that we only get the best for ourselves secondly, though firstly we must try to give the best of ourselves because in truth, how many of us believe we should be getting the best if we're incapable of giving it?

On the other hand, if we find ourselves on the receiving end and are being blamed for problems arising, knowing that we are responsible is to know that we have a choice whether to feel angry or not. Getting angry is another way of saying "It's not my fault. I don't have to stand for this!", which is the beginning of the fall-out and the point that both people in the relationship begin airing their stresses, each expecting the other to relieve them from their stress. When the arguments begin, each person in the relationship has made the decision to be stressed rather than to relieve it.

When we take responsibility as being the first major step towards reducing stress levels, each time we have a thought of past events that we'd previously relinquished responsibility of, we begin attaching the thought that we are responsible for how we felt and in knowing this, the burden begins to get lighter and we begin to think of the past as less of an issue. I believe the most important thing we must learn from our past is how we felt emotionally about events followed by how we chose to deal with them. In remembering how we felt, we then recognise the situations that surround our present and set about trying to resolve issues that increase stress levels as quickly as possible, simply by being aware of how we felt about them in the past.

Reduce Stress And Boost Performance With These Simple Steps

It is becoming more evident that stress level in today's workplace is getting higher and higher. Common sense dictates that something must be done to rectify the situation.

In reality however, those who are responsible to handle this task are more interested to touch only on the surface of the matter which has minimal or zero impact to the people and organization. People who are distressed do not need to know the mechanic of stress and its consequences as if it is a newfound virus. They want to know how to effectively manage it, preferably at the very moment it occurs.

Far too many people are shying away from surveys or exercises that requires them to fill in the blanks and answering questions about their stress level, better known as 'stress assessment'. Somehow such exercise leads to more stress and achieve little.

A better resolution, perhaps, is to focus on direct and practical measures to bring down stress level and at the same time prove to people or organization that the issue is being managed to the best of effort without wasting time, money and manpower. In short, it tells others that managing stress is a serious business.

Here are few simple steps to start with:

Communicate clearly in print or electronically that the debilitating effects of stress have been made known to everyone. Through this communication, people can recognize when they are in stress based on its symptoms and they must know how to effectively manage it, at least at their level. It is also important to communicate the importance of getting assistance if the level is too high to be managed on their own, and appoint a dedicated person to handle such instances.

That being said, it is recommended to have a clear 'standard operation procedures' that people can easily follow when they find themselves in stress. For example, what they need to do? Who can they talk to? What else can they do if the preceding steps are not producing any results? Of course, the most important thing is to emphasize that successful stress management starts with them, not someone else.

Confusion and feeling of overwhelmed can lead to stress thus it is important for everyone to be very clear with their tasks and roles. Reviewing them with those in charge in a frequent interval is recommended so that any stress build-up can be handled right at the gate. Most people find it easy to turn tail and run rather than confronting with workload issue face to face. If you are the person in charge, noticing an overworked team member is important because you can assist them before things get out of hands.

People need to be reminded more than informed so always make the effort to touch on stress, its adverse effects and how to manage it at every given opportunity. The more people are reminded about this issue, the more attention they will pay to it. Plus, if the issue keeps resurging, they will know that it is a serious matter and should not be taken lightly. Handling stress is not a onetime event anyway.

Keep people up-to-date with effective stress management. If that means spending part of the company profit or allocating special expenses to achieve this, so be it. People well beings and their sound mental state are much more important than expenses. There are enough evidences to support the high cost of stress if not managed properly at workplace or at home. Look at such spending as investment with higher return. After all, people are an organization biggest asset.

How To Reduce Stress in 5 Minutes! Get Grounded!

One quick, amazing way to release stress is to practice grounding yourself. You may have heard of this idea before. But how often do you actually do it?

It is a great tool for dealing with stress and only needs to take up 5 minutes of your time. When undertaken regularly it can really make a difference to your emotional and mental state of being. It can reduce the stress that may be causing your head to spin and also allow you to connect with your body. Many people spend most of their day detached and disconnected from their physical body. They are too busy "doing," too busy thinking about what they need to next or too busy thinking about what a certain person said or did to them. By grounding yourself you will reconnect with your body and this has numerous great benefits.

• It will help you to take a breather and become aware of the constant dialogue going on in your mind.

• It will have a calming; soothing effect on your emotions.

• It will help to strengthen your immune system

• You will breath more deeply and this will have a more energizing effect on your body.

• By doing this you will be practicing the art of being present. This is a wonderful gift to give yourself. Being fully conscious in the present moment allows us to really stop and take stock of our lives and what is going on for us. It also helps to be more appreciative of everything we have, our environment and other people in our lives.

• It helps to reduce anxiety by taking your attention away from the thing you are worrying about.

As a Yoga and Meditation Teacher I often ask my students to ground themselves in the following way:

1. Sit or stand with a nice straight back. Start to notice where your body is in contact with the ground. Notice the soles of your feet or your buttocks. Really try to place all your attention and focus into any area of your body that is touching the floor.

2. Each time your mind wanders (it will do, and that is perfectly normal!) just bring it back to your focus - the parts of your body in contact with the ground.

3. Now imagine that you have roots growing downwards from your body into the ground. Imagine them growing and spreading all the way down into the centre of the earth.

4. Take a deep breath in and imagine yourself breathing in all the positive energy and life force from the earth.

5. As you exhale deeply, imagine releasing all of your unwanted stress and tension, anything unwanted. Any negativity is released into the earth and transmuted.

6. Keep noticing your feet/buttocks and where they are in contact with the ground.

7. Repeat for as long as it feels great!

When you first start to introduce the practice of grounding into your life you may find that you come up against a certain amount of mental resistance. Your mind will be keen to tell you that you need to keep working. Just be aware of this, be prepared for it. By doing this you will be better equipped to push through it and the benefits will be well worth it.

Also watch out for your mind's cunning attempt to convince you that 5 minutes of grounding will not make a difference and so what's the point!? People often complain that they don't have enough time to take time out to look after themselves. This is often because they think it must involve an hour or more of their time. But if we can realize that reducing our stress levels only needs to take 5 minutes and that it is the small regular habits, which make all the difference to our health and well-being, then we have at our hands a great tool for achieving a greater sense of balance and harmony in our life.

I am passionate about helping people to feel good about themselves and their lives. I love that coaching enables me to see people at their most amazing selves,! Reduce Bad Stress: 5 Ways That Will Enable You to Do That and Live Healthier

You just arrived at your job and found out that there's going to be a takeover and that certain positions will be eliminated. You don't know if your position is one of them. Your heart starts beating and all kinds of things will go through your mind. Including what would happen if you were to lose your job.

What happened is that you just went into a fight or flight state. This is simply a leftover from our primitive ancestors when they to deal with hunting for food and to fight wild animals. Our brains are basically the same as they were back in those days. We still react as if losing our job was like facing death. This is the nature of today's stressful environment.

Stress can be negative or positive. Hans Selye described the differences in his book, The Stress of Life. Since stress is usually associated with being bad, this article will address that aspect. Though, I will explain the differences. Distress is what is known as the bad stress. It's usually emotionally based and triggers both adrenaline and cortisol to be released. Eustress is the good kind of stress. This will come from physical activity or from challenges.

In fact, some of the good stress can be a counter measure to bad stress. It's sort of like a balancing act. Our ancestors were able to release any distress by having to directly fight the wild animal and make their way back to their camp or home. It was a part of their everyday living. Hunting for food, as they had to walk many miles, also helped with distress. Today we don't have the luxury of this type of stress release. Nowadays, all we have to do is to go to the local market and buy our food.

So let me tell you the 5 ways to reduce distress and help you to live a healthier and happier life.

1. Start exercising. Exercise is like the eustress I mentioned earlier. As a counterbalance to distress, exercise has many other benefits. This includes the release of beta-endorphins, a natural pain reliever. And the more high intense the exercise, the more beta-endorphins are released. Exercise has also been shown to grow the brain through neurogenesis.

2. Get into meditation and self-hypnosis. Both are focused on the mental relaxation of our minds. When we do this, our stress tends to go down. This is especially true when one practices mindfulness as part of their meditation. Simply staying in the present moment will help to reduce distress that occurs from worrying about the future or what you could have done in the past.

3. Journal your stressful feelings. Writing down how you feel will enable you to deal with it outside of your mind. Sometimes we have to simply step back and see the reality of it. That it's simply just our mind that manifests the distress and not something that is going to kill us.

4. Socialize with others. By getting out and with other people, it will create a distraction from your everyday life and it will help to find people that will help you to deal with your distress in a positive way. It's been found that those that belong to a religious organization tend to suffer from less distress than those that don't. Though, there are many ways one can socialize and that's only one. Others include volunteering activities, social clubs, attending seminars and classes, or going to a local Meetup.com event.

5. Self-Care, Self-Care, Self-Care. I can't tell you enough that self-care is important in every area of your life. Doing so will help to eliminate distress in your life and those around you. It could be a walk in nature, a massage, going to a spa, or any activity that lets you know that you matter. Just do it.

Distress doesn't have to be a big part of your life. It will always be there. It's just how you deal with it that counts. When you do these five things, you'll notice your stress start to reduce plus you'll be healthier and happier.
